Recommended oil for damping a tonearm?

Hi there. I recently purchased a used Audio Technica AT-1100 MK III tonearm. It has the paddle and bath type of damping at the vertical pivot. Does anyone have any experience with which oil to use there? The paddle and plastic are plastic, so the oil has to be compatible with plastic. Thanks!

There is a silicon oil used for CNC spindles, quite thick, sold by the liter.
You need a few cc.
Ask at Micro-Tools or a similar business.

Hydraulic oil (synthetic) may work, but it is thin, unless you get some 220 or 320 grade.
That is fairly safe for plastic.

This is fairly cheap:
silicone spindle oil 60000 cst

Just search for a nearby seller, I have no ties to anybody in that line of business.

Apparently a similar product is used in the production of cosmetics, so the larger packs may contain either.
Make sure when ordering, there is also a textile production grade, used when weaving...

Meanwhile, a seller here is asking almost $8 for a 100 cc pack, seems a small outlay, should be enough for several refills.

Hi, It is something you will have to just try through the grades, if you do not know the grade required. You can definitely over damp if you use to high cst silicon oil. I would start with 6000 cst & see how that works.
