Repair separated voice coil from cone on Ultimax 8"

Hi all...

I have an older ultimax 8" driver where the voice coil has become unstuck from the cone.

There is no adhesive remnant on the cone, there is a somewhat pliable glue still on the voice coil itself.

I understand that this was a problem for some of the early renditions of this driver.

Has anyone fixed theirs?

I'm thinking about trying to gently clean off the old glue with a paint brush and solvent (upside down so the solvent won't drip down into the coil), and then using either polyurethane or epoxy to reglue...

Any thoughts?

Thanks!

I would contact Dayton/PE and ask them. They might have some recommendations.

That's a great idea. Will do that. Thanks!

The advice is to use a slow curing epoxy.

Are you sure it is not the cone and voice coil assembly which has separated from the corrugated spider (the rear suspension) as in this video? Subwoofer cone voice coil repair - YouTube

Slow epoxy makes sense... if Dayton does not come through, I'll try that.

It's definitely the coil/former that has separated from the cone (bowl?)...

I can see the space between the 2... pushing the code out shows it's not connected to the coil.

I was doing an REW sweep, and all of a sudden it was like a machine gun was going off with the coil/spider moving, and the cone sitting still. looks *ok* tho...
