Hello
Does anyone have a schematic for the Heathkit AR 1214? I just replaced all the old electrolytic caps and both channels are still very distorted.
Thanks PeterC.

Hello - I have my original AA-1214 manual that could be of assistance in troubleshootinog the amplifier portion of your AR-1214.
I could scan it into a PDF if that works for you.

DJ

Did you determine what the problem with the distortion was? My right channel is distorting, left channel is OK
Distortion on 50 year old amps is usually oxidized pot wipers especially volume pot, oxidized inner board connectors, or dried up electrolytic coupler caps. You clean the board connectors by removing & replacing. Pots usually need replaced, as do electrolytic caps. Use the >3000 hour service live grade so you don't have to do it again, as I had to do 4 times to my 1961 dynaco amp. Before the internet I had to buy short life **** caps from the shelves of the local parts store. Now you have a choice if you look around.
Besides coupler caps, dried up mains caps can make the unit very polite, as wattage can go to 1/50 th of normal before an absolute failure. I measured a 100 W Allen amp at 2 watts on the speaker in 2015 the Monday after it went silent in a Sunday service. All new E-caps brought it right back to 20 vac on speaker.
