Thank you kindly for your contribution.
Luckily, there are no Duorex II capacitors anywhere in this model. I'm well aware of those leaking all over the board. X33ES has them and always causing problems mostly at the analog stage.
On my X55ES, all caps are good, I also tested the analog stage, works as it should.
Backup cell is perfect.
Unfortunately I have no access to a proper scope. My cheap USB one could not display
an eye pattern.
If this track skip failure would be visible on the counter, it doesn't do it.
Loads the TOC quickly, finds any track quickly, fast search also seems perfect on the display. Also, if I knock the chassis, it finds its way back to track very quickly.
I'm getting the same white noise type sound on the optical out as well.
I already ordered a DSP chip, I will replace it and see if it solves it.
Thank you

Well, are you saying that the lens noise has any kind of relation with the sound problems?
That make me think that the problem is focus and tracking adjust. Don't replace any more components, try to see if the adjustmensts are right.

Not sure what "lens noise" is, but since the digital out coming from the DSP chip, I expect the problem is the DSP or before that somewhere. However, I have very limited knowledge with CD players.
Focus and tracking gain pots are on the main PCB. I registered their position with a MM and turned them both ways when I started the repair attempt weeks ago but the noise remained.
There are 3 more VRs on the pickup itself, but I suppose I shouldn't mess around with those since these are factory set(?)
Those are labelled TB, FB, APC. First two I assume tracking and focus bias. APC is probably laser power.
Would it be possible that these are off?
Thanks

This might help you understand the presets and adjustments:
Sony CDP790 and KSS240 Restoration Project
Focus gain and tracking gain if incorrect typically cause playability errors... the machine skips easily and is upset by the slightest knock when playing. Just noise from the audio and digital outputs doesn't fit the typical symptoms for mis adjustment, particularly as the player is fine in all other respects.

Hello. Sorry, but my poor english betrayed me. I confund "optical out" with "optical".
In this link there is a fault that can have some kind of simil with your failure. In this case, the distortion fault is caused by the CX23035.
A l’atelier... (page 54) - vintage-audio-laser.com
If the fault appears in the digital out, check all signals from digital out to back. Start with the CX2500, that IC could be the most suspicious.

good night
I re-enabled tropico as I'm facing an identical problem with an x55es and losing my mind with no answers.
Appears the same defect only static noise,
both analog output and digital output.
Optical is reading the tracks fast, all functions are integrated, if anyone has already come across it and has an idea, it would be very welcome.
Sorry my inglês

Dear friend, thank you for your tip I will study this part in question, in my country it is very difficult to find specific components, I only have ebay for this, I hope it is not something difficult to find.
Checking some capacitors I found something from 0.045uf with bad esr, I'm going to replace it
If there's anything new, I'll post it here!

Some questions. Where is that 0.045uf capacitor? How did you check that capacitor? How did you measure ESR that low value capacitor? I know CDP-X33ES, but not CDP-X55ES, I don't know what could be the origin of that failure, but I'd try to track signals in the digital zone with an oscilloscope.
