Some years ago I got a pair of Leak Sandwich three ways for 300 euro a pair and less for a spare part pair with one driver missing.
Got two functioning Mini Leak Sandwich for less than 300 Euro. Could be that vintage stuff is skyrocketing in the last years as old things got hyped. A friend of me who collects items from the 70ies did not like any revival shows on TV as always vintage home accessories got more expensive after that.

In germany MANY old stuff gets simply thrown away when old people die.
I told a senior some years ago that he has got original Beatles LPs from the sixties in his cellar in good condition and that these are worth a lot of money if in mint condition. He had a Tschaikowsky 1812 record from Decca LP....
If you have access to a recycling center in germany you could get vintage stuff all the time for free.
Usually the people in the recycling centers take care nobody carries anything away. Everything has to be thrown away so that people buy new stuff. Its no joke. They are specially instructed to do so and they control it all the time.

When that replacement tweeter arrives just put it in the hole, check wire polarity tho; and listen. Do the listening before you do anything else.
Then try putting some fibre inside the box, it's a cheap and easy and removable tweak.

I got them today and installed them, had to improvise. Now the speakers sound awesome. My only concern is that the high frequencies are over emphasized. Had to to tone it down with tone controls on the amp.
Sounds like you need an L-Pad.

Cheaper by far than a variable but those work well.

Hello Everyone Don't know if anyone is still interested in the Sony SS-CS5's given the last post was from 03/2023, but there was a video done by CheapAudioMan on youTube on them, I believe the title description included making them sound like $1000 speakers (which I find hard to believe) referencing a complete crossover mod by nddesigns.work including diagrams and a shopping list of what you would need with step by step instructions. There is also an article describing before and after readings Never the less I did however perform the "biggest bang for buck" mod. I drive them with an NAD 3020A Amp playing records thru a Technics SL 1600 with a Audio Technica VMN50SH cartridge/stylus. I know I am missing some vital Tech information for the full picture but I am a beginner at all of this technology (so Please be gentle).
Often changing the tone makes the easiest and most noticeable improvement. Unless you design the crossover yourself it may not be obvious whether they've changed the cross itself or the overall tone. Did they do one while leaving the other alone, or did they ignore the effect of one and concentrate on the other?
Not all things can be fixed via the crossover, but it's still a good place to look where corners may have been cut.

I did actually do an A,B comparison with amp in Mono and played a familiar song to me leaving tone controls centered and volume the same . Using my Balance knob I listened to unmodified speaker restarted the song and listened to it on modified speaker, A noticeable difference in bass sounding very soft and punchy if that makes any sense. Mid range blended very nicely with vocals sounding warm and high end sounded clean without a piercing effect. I am going by what I remembered i did the mod a while ago. It was not a big difference but I feel it was worth it. I know this was not a very scientific approach but in my case hearing was believing. Hope this all made sense.
I don't think the MH Audio site is up any more; this is a good L Pad calculator:

I feel when it comes to capacitors, the best place to learn is with affordable parts. Mundorf MKP caps are great replacements. For resistors, try Mills. Small for the wattage, just keep them away from the circuit board so they have ventilation.
This should run you under $35/speaker. 🙂 Have fun, and let me know what you learn.

Thanks eriksquires but I have modded the cross over already using the nddesigns.work web site info. But I will definitely look into the workings of electrical components. I'm aware that it can become a rabbit hole but I will be sure to pace myself. Thank you for the references I'm sure I will have another project or two down the road. 👍
