TIP 31A vs TIP 31c

In fact cost difference is so minuscule that most big sellers just carry the C , go figure.
I only find the odd A or B in some small town shop, but when I buy straight from Arrow or Avnet, C is always on stock while A and B , although nominally in the list , always show 0 stock.

I think ON or Fairchild call them "preferred device" or something similar.
Simplifies production, stocking, etc.

Personally, at home and at work, I've only ever stocked the better C versions - there's just no point stocking the lower spec ones.

From a manufacturers point of view it makes sense though, if you're buying 10 million of them, and you can save a couple of cents/pence on each one, it's an appreciable saving.

But for a hobbyist, or a service department, it makes sense to only stock the best ones.
