I am building a buffer box for my pedal steel guitar. MY current choice for the IC is a TL061A. Pretty good, but perhaps a bit noisy. I need an IC that has low quiescent current (< 1ma), will run on a 9 volt battery, and has lower noise than the venerable TL061. Any suggestions?

If you need much less than 1mA then there's OPA145 with 445uA typical Iq.

THANKS!! Those are both excellent suggestions! Now, to decide....the 197 has slightly better noise and distortion specs (though both are extremely low); the 145 uses ~ half the current but is also ~$1 more cost.......OPA197 : http://www.ti.com/lit/ds/symlink/opa197.pdf

Pedal steel pickups often have a high dc resistance >10k, so jfet is likely to be better than bipolar input opamps.
Yes, I agree; and since the OPA 145 IS a JFET, and the spec difference between it and the OPA 197 is negligible, I'm gonna spend the extra buck for the lower current draw.Pedal steel pickups often have a high dc resistance >10k, so jfet is likely to be better than bipolar input opamps.
Yeah, on paper, that's true. But I calculate the S/N of a guitar pickup (with 100 mv output) driving a TL 061 to be about 85 db. Do you think that's actually AUDIBLE? I don't know, so I'm gonna build both and see if it really makes any difference. The TL061 is about 8x noisier on paper, a very poor device
Not low power enough for the OP though, its 2mA per channel. And no singles so in practice 4X too much power.
Yeah, WAY too much current draw; OPA145 is < 0.5 ma. It WOULD be nice to find something in a PDIP package, though. Ain't made much anymore, I'm afraid. Speaking of which, though, anybody know of an INEXPENSIVE SOIC-to-DIP adapter? I've actually got some little circuit boards for this, but I can't find suitable pins.SOIC or DIP? OPA165_ is low power and infinitely better than the TL061. CMOS input
