I go to PA all the time for sales. Next time we head to Montana, which doesnt look like until 2022 the way things are going, I will fill a shopping cart at Harbor Freight.
@ Cal: Consider a boat horn.
Dual Trumpet Air Horn Kit with Compressor | Marine Horns
Also, don't forget the train headlight. If you're going to flash your lights at someone, make sure they'll see it. I knew a guy from Sweden who did that. Funny as heck!

Plenty of room inside wife's Volvo for one of those single trumpet boat horns. Now wouldn't that be a surprise for Christmas. My mischief maker in chief, aka, eldest son, give him the idea.

Thanks for the ideas fellas. I think a trip to Amazon is in order as PA doesn't seem to show what I want.
This is what has already been done, going from the single to a dual element. It's fine but it still leaves me wanting.

Can you fit a TCPA under your hood?
TCPA - Tandem Cascade Public Address "Train Horn" - YouTube
20 pounds, 225 Hz to 8kHz, 123 dB 1 watt one meter, 150 dB output capability.
You could use your car stereo to drive it, and use any sound for your horn you'd like, as long as they are legal ;^).
Kurt Graber designed the TCPA, he also still holds the Guinness World Record for the loudest acoustic speaker system with a volume of 140.2 decibels at 128 meters, but that HyperSpike definitely won't fit under your hood.

I feel your need Cal, having driven primarily smaller vehicles myself, there has always been a definite need for strong horns, and have always had a set of 1970s era Fiat air horns on my vehicles. Those are great at getting attention, are 120db, and there are knock offs available at Harbor Freight for less than $20, and they supposedly will ship to CA. The relays are junk that come with the kits however...
One day, years ago, while driving on the viaduct in downtown Seattle, some driver was starting to slob-over out and into my lane, and just as that started, one of the trains in the yard below laid on the horn. That car snapped right back into their own lane, didn’t even have to use my own horn, was priceless, the look on the driver’s face as I went by though...
There used to be J.C. Whitney for accessories like that, but they suck now...

This YouTube admits that, but also argues for "nice" horns in non-critical/fatal confrontations.

"This horn is SO courteous my car was granted Canadian citizenship yesterday."
Basically MP3s to a speaker with several flavors of bi-beep to get someone's attention without leaving a dent.
He does also have the air-horns *with* air tank.

btw, where is the "vote" button?
I always have liked the vintage Fiamm air horns for the particular reason that their note is very “polite”.
I found a decent set. Ships from Canada. Delivery in 2021. I will hold off for now. I was hoping for something under the tree.
Courtesy honk and R2-D2, nice. 🙂
btw I did look up some horns in the past too, a lot on Aliexpress, also in stainless steel for marine use if needed.

What amuses me is the claim for the volume of some horns.

I need others' experience here.
I have a 2018 Ford Edge and the original, single element horn said:
'Excuse me, I hate to bother you...'
I updated it to the dual element and it's fine but it says:
'I hope you realize you shouldn't be doing that.'
Where I live, a horn needs a sense of authority and I'm getting too old to play that role. ie: I don't get out of the vehicle to encourage my point of view anymore.
I want one of those funky spiral train horn things that not only fits under the hood, it also gets their attention long before they need to know 4000 lbs. of vehicle can really hurt when not careful.
The internet is full of these horns but I am uninformed. Help me out if you can. Sample audio clips seem to be scarce.
BTW: The best answer receives a 'get-out-of-diy-jail-free' card personally signed by me, if you happen to have future indiscretions. 😉
I've watched a few of this guy's vids. At the first of this one, he shows the compressor and horn mounted, and a link to buy the stuff

Yup. A single is rated at 150dB so two must be 300 right?
