i am not a beginner, i was, before 15 years. but the fact is , i came to this crazy world of audio purity just one year ago. if you ask , what was you doing before that , then... ya i had build several amps and multichannels, surround sounds, subwoofers, etc... but what i did was.. search internet, or books , find a circuit suitable for my need at that time.. throw in the components and built the amp.. most of them work, because i am good at soldering and building circuits ( just becoz i have an addiction to electonics) . but i never payed attention to low esr capacitors ( ya.. i used to put bulky uf values to reduce noise on power lines, but never noticed esr or audio grades) , closer mounted feedback resistors, extra low noise opamps, or thd values.. or anything you people ever care about.. literally my amps are only as good as the circuit designer..
Then few years back, may be 6-7 yrs back, i stuck upon Elliott sound pages.. and then i figured out things bit by bit.. and i made a subwoofer filter, taking the things he mentioned. i actually took his design, calculated frequency i wanted, chose components , and changed opams, something with a 4 op-amp based design.. and thats was soo good than any subs i heared at that time when i hooked it to an amp and a sub fitted in a plastic barrel!!! infact that was my first ever self designed circuit in audio electronics.
then later some time.. i stuck upon here too.. i had an account here.. long before.. i just watched what u guys do and talk.. and learned little things .. but my old account got lost.. so i did a new one.. and since now i am working as a service engineer for a sound system company.. i have enough time for all these audio works and learning.
i mostly deal with PA's ,16-30 channel mixers from dynacords, Beringer's, some Japan made amps. etc. here, only those below 100 watts, use IC's. the low power model i have ever encountered is based on 2050 based self powered speaker made by tannoy. and above that , i only encounter a Japanese 120 w /channel based on sunken Transistors.
so..thats why i had these doubts.. i always used ic based designes other than for heavy subs. i never tried to built my own Transistor or MOSFET circuits , as it was complicated with out original pcb tracks and so i mostly buy them if i wanted one.. then.. now i have this doubt, why is it so in these amps.. so you people helped me to clear it.. thanks for your valuable infos..
