Hello
i wanna build a rectifier board for my DIY dac, since i think this is the better route with better parts than buying chinese ones..
did people around here test different stuff and know what sounds or is best?
i have a "audiophile" thel power supply here which seems to have 12x 3300uF for smoothing and dedicated diodes, is this the way to go?
is just LOW ESR important?

how should i design the pcb? 2 or 4 layer? what should the layers contain? maybe one ground layer and one power layer?

is this a good candidate? is 2x "enough" or would you go with 4? i probably design the pcb for 4 anyway but it might be interesting to test 2 first ...

just have to rename the both connectors
i went with two because 4 is way to large ... i need 8 of them...
top layer is plus and bottom layer minus
i will go with Nichicon KG 10000uF 2x and STM STPSC2H12D (were recommended here on diyaudio in another thread)
i had really good expierence with nichicon KZ, so i hope KG is a good choice 🙂
any recommendations are still appreciated, its a few days till i order pcbs 🙂
yea many seem happy with them, they are just a bit costly... tho the nichicon KZ was also the clear winner on my op amp tweaking...Kg super through .they are excellent sounding.
i have to see wether i go with type 3 or type 2 KG's, they are kinda hard to buy and im kinda unsure about the aliexpress stores offering them
hmm does someone have expierence with bypass caps (0,1 - 1 uf) for the smoothing caps? this might be something i wanna add

might be worth implementing a snubber circuit, someone recommends 33nF and 330 ohm
"The snubber values depend on the power transformer used and for audio 10-30VA around 28VAC like you'd find in a +/-15V power supply, around 33nF and 330R 1/2W. The cap doesn't matter if film or ceramic, although X7R have a large voltage coefficient. I use boxed MKT film caps rated 100VAC at least triple the operating voltage."

Also i will had a fuse holder and possibly a socket for regulators, i have to see here, stay tuned 🙂
this is how it currently looks, fuse, snubber, heatsinks, and multiple wima footprints for the bypass cap added
C4 will be populated with 33nF and C3 probably with 1uF or 1,5uF MKP4
i also did a change to the layout, take a look:
i hope this layout help with decoupling AC and DC side..
BTW i ordered V1 boards too early... if someone is interested i got 30 bare PCB's soon.. the layout can be seen on Post #10 .... 1 euro per pcb is fine with me if one is interested + shipping
Did anyone try these? https://de.aliexpress.com/item/1005002904458974.html
the diodes advertised sound kinda nice too.. or could they be fake? the ones i picked would cost double and have larger footprint, and i kinda like the fact that the vishay ones of the aliexpress order are EMI resistant, any thoughts?

here is a new design with footprint for IC bridge rectifiers (or these aliexpress ones i posted above, i left some clearance for the heatsink) :
the bottom layer is exactly like the top layer
this is the mini version, there will be also one with 2x 10000uF

Would be nice if someone could chime in and tell me wether i should add a additional 0,1uF bypass cap to the 1uF one
