I was asked an interesting question today. Could I make a Karaoke machine about the size of a shoebox? He would just need audio and mic inputs and have decent amounts of output. Sounds like he has the player and screen running off a laptop.
So my question is this: What is the best way to go about this? To have an audio input and a mic (or multiple mics) hooked up to a single amplifier and keep a good signal from both? Would the 2 inputs play nicely just wiring straight to an amp input, or is there more to it than that? Am I better off doing 2 separate amps and just having some dedicated midrange speakers for the microphone input?
Sorry for the newbishness on this question, just haven't done something quite like this before, but I like a good challenge! 😉

The easy way might be to get a cheap 2 channel mixer (two 1/4" mic and two RCA inputs so you can be flexible with respect to what kind of inputs you have) with one master level control and balance and then hook up the output of the mixer to a tripath amp set up.
Numark makes a good one in their M101. The Numark C1 is three input and not much more $. These are less than $100 up here in Canada.
It would solve a lot of headaches and then you could build the whatever tripath amp in behind it and box it all in with some speaker outs.

You would need a pre amp of some sort as the mic signals are too small for an amplifier.
As said above buy a mixer or build a pre amp.
How about 2092 based class d amp module ? loads on ebay and cheap as chips.
