I scored some Vienna acoustics Mozart speakers on craigslist for 200 dollars. They sound amazing, but I want to see if they can sound better. Does anyone know which caps I could use to replace the stock caps ?
Image if it helps. These are the 1997 model not the newer Mozart Grand speakers.

Do not replace the capacitors, they are of good quality already (metallized polypropylene). There is much bigger problem with the suboptimal crossover design - see the measurements in the Stereophile's test:

First aid: invert the polarity of the tweeter at the bi-wiring speaker terminals.

Can I switch the connectors on the tweeters + and - terminals, or does it have to be switched at the crossover ?
The easiest way is to do it outside, at the bi-wiring speaker terminal:
1. connect + wire (from the amplifier) to the + woofer and - tweeter at the speaker bi-wiring terminal
2. connect - wire (from the amplifier) to the - woofer and + tweeter at the speaker bi-wiring terminal.

Strange, description in Stereophile is "bi-wiring terminal". OK, so switch the wires at the tweeter. There are only 2 terminals for the amp to connect to
Not so weird - the crossover design is suboptimal. So strange. I switched polarity and some songs sound better while others sound worse
No-no-no... If there are only 2 terminals, and you switch them, you reverse the polarity of the entire speaker, in other terms, tha absolute polarity.
Nice subject anyway, Clark Johnsen once wrote an entire book about it.
And yes, I can assure you, some records will sound better, others worse this way.....
So is you want to switch the tweeter only, you must do it on the crossower board (or on the tweeter terminals).

I am confused...
jlqrb - did you switch polarity at the (single) input terminal of the loudspeaker box, or did you switch polarity at the tweeter? If the former, than dragonweed is right.

I switched it at the tweeter terminals. I figured it was the easiest way since it cut out the need to solder anything

I am confused how he bi-wired it in that article as well. As far as I know there were no Mozart speakers with 4 terminals.
An externally hosted image should be here but it was not working when we last tested it.
