I need a replacement voice coil for an older Focal woofer. Problem is, that it is a flat wire edge wound coil, so a bit tricky.
Does anyone know of a supplier who can do custom edge wound coils?
I have sent an email to Custom Wound Electric Coils Manufacturer - North Fort Myers, Florida, but they have not responded. Will try and give them a call next week, but would like to find some alternative suppliers if possible.
Thanks.

You might try reconing suppliers, there may already be existing replacement voice coils for your model. It was certainly not the only edgewound woofer.
Yes thanks, have already tried that. Have not been able to find any existing VC for it.
In the meantime, I have now heard back from a speaker/VC company in China, that can do the job. If it works out, I will post the results.
- Would prefer to find a European (or US) supplier though..

Sorry to say, but you'll find only misery in China.
What does Focal say about replacement parts?
It's common for an OEM voicecoil to be only available as part of a recone kit: voicecoil, cone, spider, and surround already assembled and ready to be glued to the basket/magnet assy. That is also the only way I would accept to repair an oldie-but-goodie. And if it's part of a stereo pair, then repair them in pairs.

1) also suggest getting spare parts straight from Focal, or worst case letting them do it themselves.
2) round wire voice coils can even be home made if you are somewhat experienced, but edgewound ones are a different beast, not many Industries can do them and those who can will probably have minimum orders measured in the hundreds.
So not surprised about lack of enthusiasm about making "just one".
In any case, even if only original VC is damaged, you´ll still need to replace the whole moving parts (cone/spider/dome/tinsel wires) .
Car engines are joined by bolts and pins and can be disassembled to replace just *one* tiny part if needed; while speakers are epoxy glued or equivalent, NOT meant to be disassembled and reassembled.

This business has a selection of edge wound voice coils which are sourced from MWA in Florida, maybe one of them might suit your Focal woofer, Parts Catalogues Queensland Speaker Repairs scroll down to parts catalogue and the sixth folder to the right has the edge wound voice coil list.
cheers.
cheers.
Tianyi is a great manufacturer of custom magnetics, they can do custom edge wound coils at excellent performance and economic cost. You can get much professional suggestions from their engineer for free.
Hi guys, thanks for your input. Will have a look at the suggested links..
Original Focal recone kit or VC is unfortunately not available for this driver, and I havn't been able to find any suitable aftermarket parts either - that is why I am trying to have a correct VC made.
- No that is not always the case. On many woofers it is possible to replace just the VC (usually together with a new spider), and leave the original cone. I have done it several times with good results. Is it easy to do? No for sure not. It also takes longer than a straight recone, but in cases where a recone kit or new woofer is not available, it can save the speakers.
