hello!
please note that minidsp does not have a return policy and their products are shipped from china! you will pay huge tarrifs and have no way to return a broken product or get a reship from them! stay clear, use a local importer!
cheers

do we file this under 'captain obvious'?
Yes 😀
and should have been filed in the trash to begin with

miniDSP have been very good folk to deal with direct, in my experience of maybe half dozen orders.
The one product I had trouble with, after attentive online support couldn't resolve the trouble, ........they simply sent another new main board..
Just ordered an MCHStreamer directly so that I would have easy access to the firmware updating software. It arrived via DHL in less than a week. Package also contained both optical and header to stripped and tinned wire adapters. Very impressed, highly recommend not worrying about direct purchase.
I have also had an excellent experience when buying directly from them.
While if might not be the same in your country but at least in mine (Sweden) we can get the tariff waived if we return the product.
Nowadays MiniDSP products are available in stock for a lot of resellers so you don't have to order directly anymore.

^This. Bought from a local US company. Paid about the same factoring in shipping, but got it a bit faster.Nowadays MiniDSP products are available in stock for a lot of resellers so you don't have to order directly anymore.
Just got in trouble with a miniDSP 2x8 kit built about 2015 (board version from 2014):
The local miniDSP dealer helped a lot to verify that the system's audio part is dead (the digital and control part still works!), but he can't help!
So be aware of an unexpectedly shorter useful life time of your miniDSP product than you would have expected. Having to trash a system after ~6 years due to lack of spares is a NO GO! in my view!

Winfried
- No input signal seen on level monitor
- No output signal
- No spare parts anymore

I received a defective minidsp flex 8 from them. They refused to replace it.
Maybe the difference is in when the stuff was bought and is the warning by Lisette triggered by purchases in 2020 and was the advice well meant to avoid members having unpleasant experiences. As a repair guy I also warn people to avoid buying product X by company Y and there is always one that confirms his one week old purchase to be OK. Yes but what about the 99 others that did have trouble? "Fake news"?
Consider yourself lucky that your purchases were OK, GlaxzarTheFormidable (what a name) and others were less lucky.
Just saying.

Are they paying you guys in yuan or egg rolls?I've made half a dozen purchases direct and never had a problem.
Mine was broken and never got fixed... Even their return policy allows accommodation for manufacturers defects. They did not honor it. lucky? I don't feel it.Consider yourself lucky that your purchases were OK, GlaxzarTheFormidable
The truth is they have no listed phone number and when you have issues they will just tell you that they have sold many units with no problems. Then when you prove it thru various screen shots and videos, they will stop emailing you and then you have to start another support ticket which starts the whole process over. Ask me how I know this.
My $600 is now transmuted into sushi and manga porn and the people at minidsp made it clear its never coming back.
"when you have issues they will just tell you that they have sold many units with no problems'" is the language some of their customers seem to speak too 🙂
Bizarre reasoning IMHO. Because I have no issues you are not having an issue.

They used to have an exception for manufacturers defects but its no longer on there. But still, the point is I bought the flex 8 due to rave reviews across the board. I did not look at the terms of sale because of their reputation. I am telling you that they will not give you an exchange or return regardless if they sent you a lemon. These units are not cheap and it's important that others understand this before they send them hundreds or thousands of dollars. Having said that the terms are below.
No, I agree with you. I'd be pissed with a lemon. I have had a couple of mini DSPs. Mine have all worked but the software was so-so. Overall they do a good job for what you pay for them.
