1) What are the advantages of a coaxial speaker design?
2) Is it just that a coaxial takes up less space and the sound output is on the same axis?
3) Or can they sound warmer, rounder, more present and smoother in the near field than a horn loaded speaker?
4) Are coaxial designs as capable of handling greater power and higher volumes as horn loaded speakers?

Simply put consistency of off axis response and none of
the things that you mention. Used to its best advantage
with large bass drivers and a tweeter, where co-incident
mounting does have major advantages.
🙂 sreten.

My sole experience with coaxial speakers were the Tannoy Super Red Monitors. They were great with everything except one that I did not like was: in order to have good bass from them you'd have to set the volumn high, but by then the treble became too high of a volumn for my liking. May be there is a way to pad down the treble I do not know.
Just my 2 cents

Hi,
The advantage is a consistent dispersion pattern that helps in perfecting stereo imaging. I own a pair of Tannoy 8” Saturns but my Von Schweikert VR1’s sound way better IMHO despite they are no concentrics. Here is a tech paper from Tannoy:

Coaxes are point sources, all the sound comes from the same center. This is a good thing along with the voice coils are usually in the same plane.
