Hello everyone,
I'm looking for wire-to-wire and wire-to-chassis connectors for max 50V/5A DC. Use cases are 5V and 12V DC, 2-3A. Goals are
I don't want any of those coaxial cheap models like on wall-PSU, they are unstable, cheap, and voltage drop is just too high. 4mm banana not wanted, that should look professional, not "lab on an excursion".
Best would be with some lock-in mechanism, preferably by rotation or screw, not by plastic clips that break after 5 manipulations. Should be either solderable and by screws, and preferably some multi-vendor standard that I would find at Distrelec, Mouser or the other suspects.
Hints welcome 🙂

- connect a DC12V power module to a wire coming out of a device.

It sounds like you want top quality ?
How about military /aerospace etc ,read the MIL standards -

Lemo and Fischer make fine connectors. I used to buy these in surplus stores and they last a lifetime.
Aviation connectors would be another choice.
You wire pins in parallel for reaching the Amperage needed.
XLR / Cannon could also be a choice, but are dangerous, unless You use 4 pin or 5 pin which can't mate with speakers or mixing desks. DMX lighting calls for 5 pin, but most cheap stuff uses 3.

Lots of options within this line. Amazon carries them too.

Probably not much but they are easily interchanged with their cheap brothers with not so good specs. OP also wants a retention mechanism which these lack.

There is a screw-locking variant 😉.
Otherwise: CONEC M8 or M12 industrial connectors, multiple pins in parallel.

XLR come in multiple pin configurations and lockable versions.
Also available in 'tiny' versions.

after looking at the diverse suggestions, I have found the perfect combination in M8 with 4 poles, specified for 60V/3A, I can of course wire 2 poles in parallel. They exists with screws, solder lugs, angled or straight, male and female flying and panel-mount, plus decent pricing and sizing. For those in Switzerland, Distrelec (not affiliated) has them for about 6-7 CHF each as articles 301-64-666 and 301-64-664. Thanks all for your inputs!

At distrelec.ch, I see these 4 brands : Binder, Bulgin Limited, Phoenix Contact and RND Connect (the internal distrelec brand). However if you search "industrial M8 M12 connectors" you will find multiple vendors. Seems like it's a standard for sensors. They have as well multiple "coding", I didn't check this aspect, I suppose it's to avoid mixing them.
My 1st application is 12V DC to my Squeezebox Touch (3 of them). With time the power socket get loose, I open the case, solder wires, and then put a male/female pair of those M8 to be able to disconnect the power module. I can then at some point, eg when running out of projects, build a linear PSU with such a M8 case socket just for the feeling of having a new box on the audio rack 😉

I would recommend Neutrik XLR connectors. 4 pin versions are used in the professional video camera world for low voltage DC power.

I considered 4 pins XLR but they are too big. I looked at Mini XLR but not every version I neeeded exists in 4 pins versions, at least from my usual vendors. Sad as they are robust and with decent pricing.
Maybe binder connector ➔ Rundsteckverbinder Marktfuhrer weltweit have what you are looking for? They seem to carry very good products, and have a quite wide range...
XLR isn't really designed for high currency, although they can take a lot of abuse.
You could try SpeakOn or PowerCon, those are specially designed for high current.

Binder has M8/M12 products as well (benefit of standards) and I just noticed the possible cable section of M12 is more appropriate for my usage.
I use something like this.
