Hello,
Need advice for choosing a 12-18" subwoofer/woofer for the in house use. My first thought was to buy x2 of these the box 15LB075-UW4 put them in ~160 liter Horn enclosures and feed them with https://www.thomann.de/gb/the_tamp_e800.htm which I currently own. However with the current pricing of the MDF/plywood to make one enclosure cost the same price as the driver itself, moreover drivers are not that good in any sense. Which leads to the main question. Considering the budget of 100-250 euros for the driver, which one I should be looking for that is available in Europe?

Is there any advantages comparing B&C 12PS100 to alternatives in 15-18" category at the same price?
Circlomanen has kindly provided you with an image of the Hornresp Input data.
If you want to compare other drivers maybe you should replicate the data provided, and then and sim. some altenatives!

Comparing drivers in Hornresp is not a problem for me, but I'm not familiar with the 100-250 EUR price bracket. Have never looked at more expensive options. I just want to know which drivers are worth their money and which ones the community recommends. I have no space restrictions neither I mind building something more difficult.
You say this is for home use - But suggested a small xmax 15" driver in a tiny horn - at 160 litres This is smaller than the size of a Tham 15 which is small for a horn cabinet, and not usually what most want for home use.
Have you any expectations of frequency response or volume. Loud or Low?
What audio system would you be using with the subwoofer?
What crossover would you be using to provide a bass signal?
Does the 250 euro budget apply to each driver or total cost?
As the amplifier you have can provide up to 1 KW into a 8 ohm driver a higher excursion driver might be best,
Stipulating your requirments would help in finding the best options for you.

It wasn't a suggestion it was an idea/example, by exploring it, I came to the conclusion, that it's not worth spending money on cheap drivers when the enclosure cost is practically the same. My expectations would be loud, I'm providing crossover through T.Racks DSP 4x4 Mini and the ~250 EUR would be the total cost of a driver or drivers if it makes more sense to buy two instead of one at a total price of 250 EUR. What do you mean by audio system?
The rest of the system & speakers you would be using with the subwoofer?
Obviously it makes sense to ensure the sub would suit the rest of the audio equipment you have!

I think for you the best sub would be no sub.
If you target the rest of the system first you would at least have a system to play music through!
Subwoofers tend to be optimised to suit the rest of the system-which will have many variable parameters, not the other way round.
Different sub designs - target various frequency bandwidths ,output levels, size and budget constraints.

- Home
- Loudspeakers
