As title says: What to do with a bag of 200 pcs. original Toshiba 2SJ74GR? I bought them in ca. 2010 from a renowned german distributor, being in the drawer since then and I don't remember what I once intended to do with them ...
So what besides of selling would be a good use?

This refers to Nelson Pass's bonkers personal power amps, which used several thousand K170/J74 https://www.firstwatt.com/pdf/art_beast.pdf
I know that, tempting project from the edge of insanity ... But where to get 200 pcs. original 2SK170GR at a reasonable price?
All I can say is "good luck". Or use LSK170A (same gain band as the 2SK170GR). And you can actually buy them, it is a current part. It'll cost about $1000 though for 200

Not mentioning that it's probably too few for such a power amp.
I suggest to find somebody with a stash, for matching purpose. It will increase the matching yield, and in return you could store very nice quads and octets for future use.
You have a precious bag!

I think John from the US (aka punkydawgs on eBay) is the only one who can help you out. He definitely sells 2sk170bl in bigger quantities. Maybe he also got some bags of GR grade? You will have to pay around 500 USD plus shipping plus customs. I don't know if that's a reasonable price..But where to get 200 pcs. original 2SK170GR at a reasonable price?
Pass says 20mA peak per pair. So 100 pairs will do you 2A peak or 1.4A rms. Which is 16W into 8 ohms per channel.
That would be just fine into a horn speaker, but would be pretty quiet into a conventional speaker

Interesting seller - he must have come across an industrial quantity of those and stashed them away. He seems to have some GR's if you look through his listings. And the prices are not at all crazy.I think John from the US (aka punkydawgs on eBay) is the only one who can help you out. He definitely sells 2sk170bl in bigger quantities. Yes indeed. He also builds Microphone preamps and and he still uses the 2sk170 / 2sj74 a lot in his commercial designs. He literally has hundreds of thousands of this lil buggers. His eBay account is well known as one of the last sources for genuine Toshiba JFETS.Interesting seller - he must have come across an industrial quantity of those and stashed them away.
