I have it, second hand, from several organ builders that marine grade plywood is void free. I think even Fisk used it for his chests, at least for a while. Seems of late however that true baltic birch has come into favor.

I think MDF is a good choice if one has not much woodworking experience. And keep in mind that combining real wood and either MDF or plywood introduces the tricky issue of wood dynamics.

This is exactly what I've been thinking while reading this thread. A high quality plywood is the best. After that, MDF. Real wood is always a joy to work with but there can be pain with that joy. The pain as you watch your nice straight board strangely bend while running through your blade to the point that your blade binds. If you're going to use real wood be prepared to deal with twisting, cupping and other dynamics. And use a planer. Wood does what wood does.

real wood, baltic birch

I'm building Fostex's enclosure for FE206E from real wood. Wondering if the folded horn area is OK to build from MDF instead of real baltic birch. Any advices?

Cheers,
Pete
