You must have learned a lot!
Yes I have! I learned it all from a book called How not to be taken in by Audio psuedoscience and technobabble woo woo. lol😀
Lo-fi equipment for that kind of price? That's unfortunate.the best DAC I've hear so far under 10K$. ... it's accurate? No!

same applies to tube amps...
Audio-GD Master-7 is the best DAC I've hear so far under 10K$. it's a Multibit R-2R ladder DAC. it's accurate? No! it sounds liquid, airy, musical, warm and involving.
Shiit Yggdrasil is the new DAC I'd like to hear
hi dave, any comment on the Shiit?
it seems far more interesting than Master7
i think the Master7 sounded tooooo smooth or 'slippery'
has anyone mentioned the playback designs (andreas koch's company) dacs?
(this is a huge thread; have not read it all yet).
I did laugh when I saw the 'audio god' dac. I agree, too much stuff going on and a brute-force approach never impresses me.

How that amount of circuitry could produce a decent sound goes against everything Ive learned.
Ive,
This is what you posted, which suggests that in your opinion, a large amount of circuitry cannot produce a decent sound.
Google the innards of this http://www.thehighernote.com/wp-content/uploads/2015/04/tasbuyersguidead_March17.jpg
It is incontrovertibly correct to say that signals passing through innumerable transistor junctions (and/or vacuum tubes) will be horribly distorted.
But when you have enormous gain in those circuit(s) you can apply sub-enormous corrective feedback (and you have to).
EXCEPT, there is no almost no corrective feedback around loudspeakers despite their high amount of distortion, unless you introduce motional feedback.

There are many cheap tube amps available, just like there are many cheap DACs available.same applies to tube amps...
Wow, the thread is still alive!
I'm planning to organize a blind test with many DAC mentionned on the first page, and more..

oups! forgot to make the ''final'' update.. That's old:
info should be somewhere in the 119 pages, around november or so...
Anyways, the subjective Champion (so far) is the Forssell MADA-2, followed closely by the Weiss DAC1.

I've updated post #1

So far, the podium is:
1. Forssell MADA-2a (or MDAC-2/MDAC-4, its the same)
2. Weiss DAC1 mk3
3. Gustard X20
My Gustard X20, however, lasted less than 6 months, so i wouldnt recommend it.
The Weiss DAC1 mk3 is great, but about twice more expensive than the already pricey Forssell, so... not really.
Then, you have the champion: Mr. Fred Forssell obviously know how to design converters because nothing seems very fancy in regards to the components used. But, wow, that thing is spectacular. 😱
Bravo.

Also had the chance to listen the multichannel Aurora 8 by Lynx, which is a bargain if you're looking for a good multi-channel DAC.

Probably in the same league as the X20, sonically speaking. And without a doubt more reliable 😉
