XLRF Output to 3.5mm Jack - Ground Pin 3?

Hi,

I have a mixer with an XLRM output.

I want a cable that connects the XLR out to a PC input. I realize there are volume differences between normal "pro level out" and "consumer level out". I'll attenuate to compensate for the difference.

My question is about the cable. Here is a copy of the diagram for a cable I purchased (on the way). It grounds PIN 3 of the XLR (inverse for differential out). Will this eventually wear out the output stage on my mixer? Is this OK to do? Or would I be better off disconnecting PIN 3 and leaving it unconnected?

QUESTION: Is grounding Pin 3 of XLR going to damage the output stage of my mixer?

About XLR 2 and 3. OK
Between XLR 1 and 3, I have seen everthing
A)_Open ( One wants floating, grounds seperated )
B)_Shorted ( One wants grounding )
C)_Some resistor 100 ohm like. ( One wants ground lifting )
All three should work. It seems B is mostly used and is safe for XLR 3.

Know that this is a wacky way to convert from symetric to assymetric, the pro way is using a DI or a transformer. This is why there is no clear answer. Hum, ground loops, is the issue.

OPTION 1 (STANDARD) (One wants floating, grounds separated, no connection to XLR 3):
XLR 1 = GND
XLR 2 = POSITIVE
XLR 3 = NO CONNECTION

OPTION 2 (Shorted, one wants grounding )
XLR 1 = GND
XLR 2 = POSITIVE
XLR 3 = XLR 3 TO XLR 1 (GROUND)

OPTION 3 (One wants ground lifting)
XLR 1 = GND
XLR 2 = POSITIVE
XLR 3 = XLR3 TO 100ohm RESISTOR TO XLR 1 (GROUND).

Please correct me if I'm wrong. Your answer was super helpful. But this is what I've come to understand and want to confirm. Thanks!

Yes, I know that. Thank you. It's a microphone mixer, so I want to split the mic signal to both L/R. 🙂
