... One more comment in relation to JRiver that I forgot ... IMO one advantage of JRiver is that it may work as a streaming software and then the JRiver stream may be convoluted through HQPlayer (I hope I used the right word). In this way it should be possible to play back music streams using HQPlayer as the DSD processor (information courtesy Koldby who mentioned this is a PM, I think). I reckon something similar may also be possible with Roon.

Instead of just shifting the spurs in frequency, the improved dithering made them smaller. I think that's the most important improvement, because any signal or offset in the programme to be played through the DAC will modulate the momentary frequency anyway.
It made all the dynamic transients and low level details in music smaller too. So its worse dither for the listeners, who couldn't hear the tiny spurs in the first place.
