100W Ultimate Fidelity Amplifier

Xrk mod fh9

This is my build from post #13686 ordered from PCBWay. The amp is powered with SMPS ,+- 36V,plays very well and not difficult to assembly. The bias is around 70ma per transistor and is not hot at all in normal listening level.
Thank you Prasi and XRK for this amp.

Xrk mod fh9 close up picture

Here is close up picture of my assembly. I have made two changes of component value, C6 is 6pF not 4,7pF and input capacitor is 4,7uF not 3,3uF,because that I have in my stock.

How would you compare these three amplifiers Prasi has drawn boards for?

Apex AX-14,

2 pairs ax-14.png

Apex FH-9 XRK-MOD-Compact,

APEX FH-9 XRK-MOD-COMPACT-side fet-fh9vx-LAY.png

FX-8-bimo?

fx-8-bimo.png

Sound quality?

Complexity to build? (bias setting?)

Cost?

Power?

Full frequency response?

Works with low impedance?

Documentation (existing BOMs so a dummy could build one without having to pick all the parts)?

I am looking to build my first APEX amp and am trying to decide which one.

Thank you,

David.

I never built the FH-9 since I had built a few FX8s and was very pleased with them. Never built the Bimo mod though. The AX-14 is a sweet amp and with two pair will handle more power. All of them are using parts that are getting harder for find. You would be pleased with any of them I'm sure.

Does the APEX A40 support +-55V transformator voltage output, so +-55*sqrt(2) rail voltage?

If I understand correctly, you are asking if a 55Vac secondary is too high for an A40. This would give you approximately +/-75Vdc .

Yes this is too high for 3-pairs of outputs. You should have at least 4-pair and to be safe would suggest 5 pair.

But it’s DIY so if you are willing to take the risk you can “try” almost anything. Suggest if you are going to try it, that you buy more robust outputs then the 5200/1943

If memory serves me, the FH9 was XRK's work around to the FX8 so he could use the cheaper HEXFETs for the output instead of the Lateral MOSFETs. I guess it is getting increasingly more difficult to get laterals these days. The FX8 was one of the best sounding small amps I've built.

Was this the FX8 you made post #6202 based on Prasi's FX8 layout?
