Why should it be so ? Since ten years I am using an other version having six channels, six positions, unbalanced inputs, at the output of BSS366 processor.this type of attenuator can become very noisy in an area close to transmission towers. It is a real antenna!
All the inputs and outputs are non-insulated RCA sockets.
It is mainly set for an attenuation between 20 and 30 dB.
Neither with it nor with the attenuator on the photo, I ever encountered problems with parasitics or noise.
I know, it depends of the area and the geometry/length of wire between resistors.
In my urban area I am 1km from transmission towers and wifi is everywhere, I can hear FM radio on tiny gang switches.
So it could work in some areas and in others not, depending if your home is in the path of radio stations.

I would recommend something like this DACT Type 21 Stepped Attenuator / Volume Control (Hi Fi Grade) * D shape Shaft * | eBay This is the detailed view of it eBay
Don't be put off by the cheap price. I got one for my preamp a few years ago, I'd never been happy with any pots I'd bought (mainly due to channel imbalance). I was a bit skeptical that something this cheap would be good, but I couldn't be happier 🙂
Tony.
great pot

I use these in my m-c phono stage, 1 stereo attenuator as a gain controller and one stereo attenuator to provide variable cartridge loading. They have worked flawlessly for 2 or 3 years.
also from my view the best solution (looks like military grade janco- or electro-switch) together with rotary switch type 04 from ELMA. Also good P&G with oil (used e. g. from Jeff Rowland in his Coherence ONE), but since a long time not longer available).![]()
