Your CRT projector should allow you a pretty wide adjustment to compensate for keystone. You should not have to use a variety of leveling devices.

The ATI is a great card for driving a projector. Even if you have a doubler in your projector, you are likely much better off to use a modern external scaler or PC with a good graphics card. The old doublers can be equated to the worst progressive scan DVD in terms of quality. However if you feed them a progressive scan picture, they are not too bad. Feel them interlaced and they are far from pretty.

Another kudo to BARCO. In a former life, I worked on video\data projectors. Barco was always the company to beat.

Hi,

Another kudo to BARCO. In a former life, I worked on video\data projectors. Barco was always the company to beat.

It shouldn't come as a surprise then that 90% of the standards are set in Belgium, be that for CD, DVD or SACD...

Not that this has much to do with what you actually get when you buy something but still...Nice to know, isn't it?

Cheers,😉

Psssssst: Belgian chocolates can't be beat either...

I don't really know much about crt's, but the lifespan of them was questioned. At the club I work at, we run one 12 hours a day, 5 days a week. We just scrapped our old one and had to buy a new one. The old one had been there about 5 years (just a rough guess) and still looked great. It wasn't until we got a new one last month that I realized how they degrade over time. We show mostly sports and the E! channel, but it had no burned in logos. New one looks incredible! We have about a 9' diag image on a dalite screen. I know this is an isloated case, but being driven so hard for so long in a smoke filled environment makes me think a quality crt would be the way to go if I had the $$

Just got my Barco Data 800 a couple days ago.

Just to let you people know...

Comparing the Barco 800 CRT projector to my other projector...

Nec 1545V w/ 400w MH kit at 1024x768 contrast 250:1
Infocus X1 at 800x600 contrast 2000:1, lumens 1000~
Dell 2100MP at 800x600 contrast 2000:1, lumens 1000~

Seriously, the Barco Data 800 blows all the projector listed above.
The barco 800 runs at 1024x768, contrast 15,000:1, 825 lumens.

Sorry, but I do not have any pictures however, it does perform better than the X1. There is NO RAINBOWS. Also, the movie LOTR part 1. where the hobbits and the other people were inside where they fought the ORC, the scene is very dark, but with the 15,000:1 contrast, it was very visible compared to the X1 or 2100MP with 2000:1. Even at 2000:1, it still seemed dark in the dark scenes, very hard to see the person's face.

However, I still have a NEC 1545V and maybe I will still do the DIY projector just for fun. If I do, I am planning to maximize the lumens output from the projector and focusing the light beam directly to the lcd rather than having it scattered all over the place.

Also, you would not need a higher end CRT, one that does 1024x768 should be fine for most users because I know most people here don't have High Definition source.

But I recently played HD on my barco 800 and the thing blows. The picture is so 3d and life like. If you haven't viewed HD before, you better go check it out and you'll be surprised. My projector playing a HD video is about the same picture quality on a 42" plasma!!!!
