I heard horror stories of people paying 90% Custom Duty on import of PCB in India.
Any experiences of importing bulk PCB from JLCPCB into India? Like 300Pieces , one of my friend wants to know.
It is a 4layers design , not possible to do in India at reasonable price.

90% only for luxury goods like whisky, cars, cigarettes.
Ask the PCB guy, they will know.
And use FedEx, or similar, they deal with Customs, no need for the importer to deal with Customs or agents.
Asked a friend, he gets LED driver PCBs, pays about 22% (HSN Code is 9405 for those).
He said the rate depends on the intended use of the PCB, if it goes in a car, the GST for cars (28%), and proportionate import duty will be charged.
If it is a machinery part, those are 18% or so GST.
And so on.
The seller and buyer must describe the item, and make a declaration about it, which is normal trading practice.

In Canada, I pay 13% HST if it's more than 20$CAD.
I ordered 200$USD worth of stuff from LCSC and with the clearing fee and tax it was another 45$CAD at the door (using DHL. FedEx costs 10$CAD less).

Not sure what the situation is presently, a lot of changes have happened at the customs end. Duty and GST are charged together, meaning you pay applicable customs duty and GST, and claim the waiver if you are able to do so based on eligibility.
For hobbyist use, you pay between 50 and 65% duty however everything depends on the assessing officer. If you don't like the duty levied you can appeal, but who does that? So most generally pay and lick their wounds quietly. Ive not ordered PCBs recently (after the increases started) but whatever I have bought online from abroad has been levied at about 50%, give or take.

Wow.
Here the brokerage for Fedex is 10$CAD plus 13%HST (11.30$) plus the HST on the value of the item based on what it is. I think there's 20% duty plus 13% HST for computer stuff for instance, but electronic components and PCBs etc are only charged 13% HST here.
So basically it sounds like if I paid 100$ in Canada, I'd have to pay 150$+ if I was in India?

Let us say you got normal parts, not for cars or luxury goods.
For that it is mostly 18% GST here.
You will pay GST, which you can claim as input tax credit if you are a registered business.
You will pay no import.duty if it is a government order (copy to be provided)
For regular non government importers, see below.
The import duty will be assessed on the end use of the part, for LED drivers it is 20% + 6% cess, so about 21.2%.
This is on CIF basis, so you pay duty on the freight.
The Customs House agents, who do all the running around, have their own fee structure, based on the value, and how good and frequent customer you are, figure about 5% for casual transactions.
So 100 dollars worth becomes $110 landed ($10 freight as an example), added to that is 18% GST, 21.2% import duty, 5% handling, and then the local delivery charge from importing port to where the buyer actually needs his material.
The GST is adjustable, so are the freight and agent charges.
Depends how you count it.
For fun, read "The Figgerin' of Aunt Wilma", by Mark Twain.

Pretty much exactly that, except the base currency is US$, not CAD$. If you're buying imported products from local retail the equivalent conversion rate works out to INR 100 per US dollar (the official exchange rate is 72-75), even though most of the stuff is made in China and cheaper to ship to India.
If you're importing yourself, it's a little lower than that but not by much. Maybe 90. Often you pay between three and 4 times as much - TPA3116 boards, for example, cost about twice as much as AliExpress direct (which is no longer shipping to India due to some high-level issues). I was quoted INR 2,500 for a part for my LG phone. The part costs $5 (under INR 400). Apple products convert at between 95 and 120 per USD.
For a 4 layer PCB the India production is highly inefficient. You cannot order small batches and the cost is chillingly high. even for large-scale 300x100 2 layer PCBs I was forced to buy from abroad (this was before the new charges began to be levied) because the India prices were shockingly high (about three times as much).
Ya I hear you on local prices.
I can make a make a run of PCBs at JLC for 25$ that the local PCB fab in Toronto wants $300 to do. Oh and it would take 6 weeks in Toronto and 3 days in China.

You should check with them on MOQ and lead time, as well as applicable taxes. That seems like the price for a midrange TPA board, but can't tell without looking. That specific case is not specifically on topic (there's an India-specific thread somewhere where this is better discussed) so I'm reluctant to discuss it further. However it gets pretty complex when semiconductors get involved, due to the provenance of the devices.
It is a mid range price, Thank You for the information.
It was a little off topic, but you mentioned Indian prices are high compared to Chinese ones.
The provenance is always doubtful, cannot say without getting in hand.
Back to topic, if any discussion comes up, I will be happy to contribute what I can.

Hello..
Any body oredered JLC/Pcb way PCBs here?
Suppose the invoice amount including shipping is 100USD. How much will i have to pay as customs duty when it reaches India?
PLease help

According to the internet, India taxes at 28% so that 100USD becomes 128USD and that doesn't include duty/clearing. See post #7.
That is correct. On any import, you get charged the relevant import duty plus local taxes, as well as clearance charges for the customs agent (usually the courier). It usually works out to between 50 and 60% additional on the base invoice value. The amount is collected from you on delivery.
This is only for individual imports. Organisations with an import license (needed to claim GST refund) go through a totally separate process.

For Canada, they give several options that don't include DDP. DDP is only offered as an option using DHL for me. I find if it cheaper to make separate orders and have them shipped global line (13$CAD for 10 small boards, order number removed, shipped vs 40+$CAD with DHL DDP)For my JLCPCB orders they include any taxes in the quote.

Dear Dibya and Sumeshak,
If you're looking for bulk fabrication at reasonable prices for multilayer, you may try the Gandhinagar-based www.pcbpower.com. Their website can calculate the cost from the design dimensions, layers, quantity etc. Since the origin is within India itself, the manufacturing would not incur any duties besides the regular taxes.
Though not in bulk quantities, I have printed a lot of multilayer PCBs with them and their service has been decent. Shipping is completely free as well.
All the best.

Don't bother for hobby quantities.
Douglas Self has sold 51 kits in about 6 months.
The other sellers on this forum, and their volumes I have no idea.
For an Indian supplier, it is too much hassle.
Or they might have some sort of rapid prototype facility...send them an e-mail.
Be clear about volumes.
Also, some have a PCB design facility, send them a copy of the schematic as well.
Ahmedabad has many workshops that will assemble your circuit, you can get it made, depends how big the volumes are.

what was the size of your multilayer and how much was the end charge for a number of pieces - as far as I know, PCB POWER was pretty chilling pricy for those who may not be doing it for GB and need only 2 or 3
there was one more chap from Gandhinagar do not recollect his name but had seen his add's on Instagram (prime i think ) - horrible communication and pricing
How about Lion circuits Bangalore? they seem to be more reasonable for the dual/multilayer-layer boards.
