One issue with the Varta's is that when the load is very light they switch themselves off. A small test circuit with one or two opamps does that. Can be frustrating, I didn't notice it until only recently.

Are other brands similar? The giveaway is probably a pushbutton on switch.

I remember my first silent switcher that I unsoldered because it kept turning off I figured it out, luckily making +-15 from 5 you don't need much. I found 40-50mA at +-15 keeps any of them on. The one they sell for jumping your car have a switch.
