OK, analyser artifact. It is failing to distinguish between harmonic distortion (which normally varies smoothly with frequency) and 'signal components which by coincidence just happen to be at a multiple of the current test frequency'. You need to tell the analyser to ignore ultrasonic components when calculating THD.
Oppo BDP-105 Audiophile CD and multimedia player 🙂
OPPO BDP-105 Blu-ray Disc Player
Not sure how it compares to the other products, but they have great reviews.

often specs are similar, but the sound is not. if you clock a porsche and a kia doing 75mph, you might say they are the same because they have the same measurement but perform very differently. you would not be able to tell the difference from a high end cd player from a cheap sony cd player on 300$ speakers and stereo receiver. there is not enough resolution to notice the difference. so yes, to some, "its not worth it, it sounds the same".

It can be done, the number of harmonics to consider in the THD is a setting. Then, the THD+N and the THD would be about the same 0.01%.

Ah, lab tests (measurements) versus real life sound performance; the story of ultra hi-end. 🙂
I got the Oppo 105, which is much more expensive than most stuff I have (admittedly everything else is DIY)
I don't regret the purchase at all. It's just a very fine piece. Balanced output option, great for Pass projects, USB input from your Audio computer high res files. Video quality pleases the wife. It really is an excellent deal if you add up all it has to offer IMHO.

So does the $4500 Audiophile-105 Audiophile edition with Bybee slipstreams.
Audiophile CD player costs at least $10,000
Anything less than $10,000 doesn't sound good at all.
The best is to spend around $20,000 to get high-end audiophile gear.
Above should be applied to all components - not only CD players.

I think you missed a smiley of this statement?
Once you reach a certain price point, which is nowhere near the ridiculous numbers above with CD players, price does not correlate with sound quality anymore.
Also, using the best and most expensive parts doesn't guarantee that the engineers made the best of them, i.e. implemented them as well as possible.
You can buy abysmal sounding and measuring players for over 10k that are being marketed as audiophile golden-ear type audio nirvana ne plus ultra CD players.

I'd love the Arcam CD37, in its price range £1600 it is one of the best, you have to spend silly money to better it.
Have you read the thread "The Shigalone Story"? It just goes to show how much you can achieve on a budget.
You start with a good CD transport - which with the Shigalone came out of a hundred buck portable boogie box. Then you add a decent DAC.
I haven't any experience of the Shigalone but it has quite a following.
The Sony PS3 also has a reasonable CD/DVD transport system in it but it's more difficult to implement as a standalone.

At that price, your ears become the weak link in the chain.😀
Cheers,
J.
None of you tried this ?

Sorry Karl, it says nothing about 'audiophile' CD players, it reflects only poor A/D recording chain.

Hi Pavel,
yes, this was not state of the art testing I know, but as you'll remember, the first track was a comparison of a direct CD rip vs a midpriced playback chain plus the PC recording process of course. Nobody immediately guessed from listening that the track switches from original rip to recorded player.

Does that one use the Ring DAC? ...HDCD decoder?

Everyone should simply buy that machine and call it a day! ...Close this thread, and don't ask any other question, or add any more comment. 😀
I'm kidding, there are more expensive machines out there that does CD playback better.
But the Oppo BDP-105D is much more than just a CD player. ...And @ its price is a steal. ...Even @ full MSRP.
i have a Cambridge audio 740c and dont see the need to spend more money than that , although i wouldnt say no is someone gave me an audiolab 8200cdq 🙂
PS1 for 10$ and parts for 100$ or a Shigaclone the hard way by tearing a boombox apart for abt 100$ or the easy way by buying a kit from Tvicol Audio.
They give very competent CD players for reasonable money. I just love to be noticed of products where industry wasn't aware of what they gave away🙂
