Aiyima TPA3251 Modification Build Thread!

notakosan

What are you using as a Power Supply ?

The A04 does not tend to be noisy - Mine is almost silent using a Mean Well LRS-200-24 Power Supply (24 volts).
I am using this power adapter https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B07C5P6NNS. Somebody recommended it along with the Aiyima A04. I am interested in Mean Well but a little hesitant to use it as external power supply.

I'm using it with the power supply they sell € 18,21 25%de DESCUENTO | AIYIMA-Adaptador de AC100V-240V de 32V DC32V 5A, enchufe de la UE, EE. UU., 5,5x2,5 MM, cargador de fuente de alimentación para amplificador TAS5613 TPA3255 TDA7498E

Noisy... means there is a prob, Class D is very quite.

Not sounding great, is quite a different story. As reported, we found (to our ears) in direct comparison that the stock 04 was barely up to traditional 500E Class AB amps. Still good VFM, but defo not the giant killer some claimed it to be.

Once tweaked though, it plays in a complete different league. We lack direct modern amp competitors in the "mid-fi sub 2000$ bracket", so can't say for sure, but somewhere there would be our guess. We wanted to take the amp to a shop to find out in a direct comparison, but successive lockdowns have changed our priorities...

notakosan I have the A04 and that exact $16 PS brick and it sounds great. Quiet and no obvious distortion. I'm running with Focal 2-ways and can barely turn it up because the speakers are fairly efficient. New opa1656 opamps going in next week, but it's seriously great as is.

Something like 10 years ago I bought the living room setup. Reading in a national forum I discovered how to make and affordable but good sounding set up. Those speakers were very appreciated then because their sound quality and affordable price. They are not longer avaliable. The onkio drives the speakers. The 1000w berhinger power amp drives a 3cm solid sealed wood car woofer I did back in the time. I thought the sound was good but now I see the aiyima sounds much better. I can see now how good the speakers are. Not as good as many here but I'm not as deep submerged in audio.

I bought those:
UKT1V100MDD1TD Nichicon | Mouser Espana
Producto: Audio Grade Electrolytic Capacitors
Estilo de terminación: Radial
Capacitancia: 10 uF
Voltaje máximo DC: 35 VDC
Temperatura operativa máxima: + 105 C
Diámetro: 5 mm
Espaciado del plomo: 2 mm
Longitud: 11 mm

Careful as my opa adapter is not facing the same way as the ones here so be sure how to install it, although in my case, the cap goes in the same pins

Let me know if i can help you further

In our case both are 10uF and one is lytic, the other X7R.

To answer your question, the differences were in sound, clearly all tech and values combos didn't sound the same.

Please use the search function: we posted already in details on that regarding how much bypass (values up to 30uF), what caps tech etc.
The only thing that remained a constant and stable and added values regardless teh combo turned out to be the C0G 0.0082 Murata cap (that comes as addition in our case). Obviously having 2 identical amps and being able to compare simple add-ons /bypasses on the fly with our biwired LS was a plus that helped us determining what to go for regarding the 3rd amp we built. And to stetle the final specs of the 2 amps we tweaked, going for biamping :)

At the end we picked up what we liked most from a pure sonic POV, as fine tuning as all other mods were done. All in our humble opinion.

Reviving an old thread... not sure it is the right place to post this, but we have just performed what is likely to be the last mod on Gilles amps.

Provided you have only digital sources and a decent DAC / player with digital volume control, we have put together a 5$ volume control that is probably very difficult to best regardless your budget. An dit could of course fit inside the Aiyima.

If there is interest, I will post here, if not, then probably not the right place as belongs more in a preamp thread... or I just spare my time for my own projects LOL

Have fun

Volume Control - Aiyima A04 Modifications.

Hi Claude.

Please post details of your volume control for the Aiyima A04 in this thread as otherwise it is likely to get lost !!

It is still a modification and I am sure of interest to all of us who are playing with the various generations of the Aiyima A04 / Tilear XZD-1752.

Many thanks. James
