So with this "Smp Cb" boards, it's possible the make a good dac same as commercial dac ?

These DAC's are certainly very good for the price. Pretty hard to say if they are better than a commercial DAC as there lots of very good ones, but for the price you won't find many that are any better.

If you just want to buy one the same seller has complete DAC's in Chassis, with or without XMOS board. Price is still very good.

Hi

I have bought one of these too. https://www.aliexpress.com/item/AK4495S-DAC-decoder-finished-soft-control-board-AK4118-receives-support-DSD128-PCM384K/32598025462.html?spm=2114.30010308.3.10.qnilyK&ws_ab_test=searchweb0_0,searchweb201602_4_10065_10068_10069_10084_10083_10086_10017_10080_10082_10081_10060_10061_10062_10056_10055_10054_10059_10078_10079_10073_10070_10052_10053_422_10050_10051,searchweb201603_7&btsid=f04c80e7-12e4-4e5b-8510-87b308ef6f79
It has been a few weeks but should be here any day :)

I was hoping to just use a 50K pot between the DAC and my amp board (input impedance 33KOhm). Would this be ideal, or should I use a buffer such as B1? I understand that the board offers push button volume control, but I would like to use a knob.

Thanks.

That board supports remote control with an apple remote I would think that would be nicer than a pot?

If you really want a pot then for typical amplifier impedances a 10K pot is used to give a good range of volume control. The bigger the pot is in comparison to the input impedance pushes most of the gain change to the end of the pots rotation. The downside to a smaller pot is that the impedance varies more over it's range.

A better explanation here at Figure 5
Volume control

There is no real need for a buffer but the buffer will keep the impedance constant, a unity gain opamp buffer is very simple to build if you have the power supply voltages available, the B1 is also a nice device but not really necessary.

Online version of 4118 board from aliexpress successfully paired with diyinhk 4490 board. Mcu is working as well, volume and filter selection. Only thing a had to change on dac side was setting psn pin to H . Cad0 and cad1 left on default values.

Glad it worked for you!

If you have some spare cat5 cable it works very well for this type of connection and will avoid the possibility of a short in the long term.

Very nice. It seems on top of ak4118 you have an amanero instead of xmos. Is it correct?
How is the sound? Its different from ak4495?

Thank you.
right, it is amanero, initially I planed to go with waveio but decided for amanero because of easier mechanical installation.

I never had 4495 so can't compare it. Before this I used to listen same 4490 board in parallel mode without possibility to use all dac features such is volume control, dsd playback, optical input and filters, so this 4118 board was exactly what I was looking for last two years.

Thanks to this thread I have much better and fully functional dac gear :)

Great news:) i have an ebay single ak4495 board with i2s in only. The sound is very good for such a cheap board.
You should try the filters. There is one of them with great sense of separation and air around things. I don t know the name since my board has only the four filters hardware controled by switch.

I have a couple of those boards and unless something has changed the filters don't work because the switch is inserted incorrectly. To get the filters to work you have to remove the red switch and replace it with pins which you then jumper in various ways to get the different filters.
The boards are excellent value for money imo.
Strange because on mine the filters change. Some of my friends heard the diferent positions and heard the same changes in sound that i did...

What do you think of those boards vs the dyinhk ones?
I willing to try a dyinhk one.

On the bottom of the diyinhk boards there are pins that can be jumpered to select some of the filters and functions but not all of them are available in hardware mode. Look at the pin functions section of the datasheet to see what is available.

This thread is not meant to be about diyinhk boards though....
