Nothing wrong with Spotted Dick.
Apart from it being too starchy for summer eating with lumpy custard obviously.
**** on a shingle.
aka, chipped beef on toast
This is my childhood.... except mom made a proper béchamel of nothing but thyme, sage, and the really good stuff directly from Dutch Pennsylvania. Over the most tender buttermilk biscuits, barely kneaded into rough balls that baked while I helpingly stirred said gravy. S**t that was definitely not! It was heaven.

Growing up we used to have a complete set of ‘drinking glasses’ from the jars the beef came in......I wonder if they still make it?
Yes, they do. There are two sizes. I prefer the larger ones.
One of my son's favorite meals is chipped beef over waffles.
Biscuits are a good second. And, oddly enough I will be having it for breakfast tomorrow morning as there is a container in the refrigerator with the last biscuit and chipped beef gravy.
Another favorite is SOS made with ground beef. I remember it from my youth and from the military. Basically hamburger scrambled and drained. Add diced onions, flour, salt, pepper, milk and make into a beef gravy. Ladle over toast.

What summer, everyone is well wrapped up watching the cricket in the UK?
Because if you make some the weather will immediately turn very hot and sweaty.
We just wash out cars if we want it to rain
It was cold here until today, our heating was still firing up on Tuesday.
Tonight will be stuffed Bitter melon. It's a complete meal so nothing else is needed but you never know...
Fill me in on that one.....sounds interesting.

Depends what you stuff it with? I have never knowingly eaten bitter melon, I assume there will be pics.
After simmering, then top splitting and gutting, the Mrs. stuffs it with a ground pork shoulder, black fungus and bean thread mixture. It is bound with green onion and returned for poaching. She has cut it into pieces for serving.

She looks so peaceful, it's a shame to have to wake her for dinner, but she is the guest of honour tonight so I really have no choice.
